On or around August 25 2012, the NASA spacecraft Voyager left our solar system and crossed into interstellar space, making it the first man-made object to do so. Around the same time, my grandmother passed away after a long battle with cancer. These two events, while seemingly unrelated, became symbolically linked in my mind. The end of one journey is often the beginning of another. I thought obsessively about these things while searching for a title. The music is very sweet, kind of like a music box in a weightless environment. As the piece spins away, it forgets itself, leaving a faint memory of a popular melody by Liszt in its wake. ‘Bon Voyage’ is dedicated to Mai Wang and has a duration of approximately 7 minutes.
